If in the past somebody talked about smart cities, they would certainly see him as crazy or a science fiction writer. But can city get an IQ? Of course it can, using the means of technology and taking advantage of its natural energy sources. The goal is the optimization of life for citizens/visitors, but with the simultaneous presence of the environment.
If you want to make your life easier, do not waste any time. Book a ticket for one of the four smartest cities in the world and who knows; perhaps everything will be ready before you step out of the hotel room.
4) Tel Aviv
The article is completed with a surprise city, which was declared as the smartest for 2014. Tel Aviv offers a wide range of amenities and comforts that come from the genius app DigiTel. Through this app, you will find where you can eat, have fun, find parking spots but also learn about its cost, rent a bike and get information about construction zones, dangers or malfunctions that may be going on in your area. You also have the chance to inform yourself (online) the services responsible about any problems you may have noticed. And as for where you will find signal, do not fret. The municipality has this covered, too, with 80 zones of free wifi access, which cover more than 200 spots in the entire city (even at the beach)!
3) Kuala Lumpur
The city of contrasts offers to its permanent residents as well as tourists a quality stay, full of surprises. It has the amazing gift of running on energy coming from either natural sources (sun, wind) or useless (garbage). It is one of the fastest growing cities in the world, in which you will find dozens of spots where you can charge your phone, surf the web and enjoy lots of other services that will make your life easier. Then again, if you are sick of being stuck at traffic, you can just pass over it(!) with the monorail. Finally, in a 60km distance, you will find the top Formula1 & MotoGP racing track, which is constructed according to the highest technological standards.
2) Barcelona:
The Spanish metropolis is an exemplar of urban genius, with dozens of innovations being applied to it each year.Through lots of applications, one can book tickets, get information about traffic, check schedules for the means of public transport, call a taxi, book a table at a restaurant or seats to a show, and all of these even before stepping out of the room. You should also know that there are sensors under your feet that count the ground’s humidity (“smart water supply system”), while the specialized staff analyzes the weather conditions, so to avoid waste of water.
The Messi of innovation
Furthermore, there are sensors on the streets that offer information about open parking spaces, while the cleaning services receive, via telecommunication systems, the data for the bins that need to be cleaned! And if you happen to be crossing some street and the lights turn on just for you, do not be alarmed, you are not being watched! It is the automatic light system, an innovation that saves energy up to 30%. The city also provides the ability of charge for all electric vehicles, and finally, we have great news for the friends of online surfing, as the 700 spots with free access offer free browsing, wherever you are!
1) Singapore

The genius island could also be described as the city with the third eye, as everything is being watched, by millions of cameras and sensors.
Do not make the mistake of throwing trash out of the can; the fine will be at your hotel room’s door, when you return. Do not light your cigarette in a prohibited area/space, they will find you even before you put it out. Are you worried about your car safety? Relax! The closed-circuit surveillance that is set up in the city, gives you the chance to check on it on any given moment (as long as you have parked in monitored spaces).
Big Brother watches everything…!
Then again, if you are scared of floods and typhoons, we will only say that a neighborhood that is in a state of emergency, can be evacuated faster than any other in the world. Finally, if you would like to relax with a nice bubble bath, do not think about the water you waste. Thanks to the ultramodern water supply system, it is put in good use to the last drop. (Wasted water is filtered and forwarded to be used anew.)
Ooh such a cool angle on post – great read!

Thank you Becky!! You have a worlderful Travel Blog! The unknown Montenegro looks so pretty!
I’ve been to Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Both are definitely modern. I didn’t get the whole “big brother” vibe in Singapore but I was definitely careful not to litter or chew gum there!
