Hotel

Hotels in London: London is a pretty expensive destination as far as accommodation goes, so make sure you conduct a very thorough research, at least 1-2 months in advance, before your trip. We are the kind of couple that can’t do with the joint tenancy and shared bathrooms that come with hostels! We want quality and independence, a feature that we know is charged a little extra.

The Westbridge Hotel

The Westbridge Hotel is the best choice for accommodation in London, as it combines quality, comfort and good price. It has only one disadvantage, namely it being located in the area of Newham, about 20 minutes away from the center of London. Close to it you will find London’s Olympic Park and the Westfield Stratford City shopping center, while the metro station is just 4 minutes away from the hotel (Stratford station). In the area around the Westbridge Hotel you will find cafés, supermarkets and low-cost restaurants with mostly Eastern flavors.

The Westbridge Hotel is housed in a well-kept, listed building of the 18th century. The hotel has well-maintained and clean areas with beautiful period furniture. It also includes a gym, a patio for the warm days, restaurant, free pc access, as well as a 24-hour Lounge with newspapers, magazines and books. The staff is polite and always willing to help you. Important: You should not miss out on the wonderful English breakfast. It may be charged extra, but both the flavors and the variety will satisfy you completely.

The rooms of the Westbridge Hotel are clean and comfortable, which is rare for London (18m²). The wooden floor and beautiful decoration of the spaces will make you feel at home from the very first moment. Inside the room you will find amenities such as a fridge, blow-dryer, safe box, satellite TV, free WiFi, coffee/tea, air-conditioning and many more.

It is also worth mentioning that the good soundproofing in combination with the comfortable beds offer many moments of relaxation. In the hotel there are two room categories, the standard ones and the suites. Apart from size, they also differ in decoration as the furniture and details in the suites belong to an older era. Make the choice according to your taste.

The price per night is 90-100€, which is way more than good for the quality, amenities and, of course, the city in which it is located. Highly Recommended (H)

Tip:

The hotel does not serve alcohol or pork. But you can purchase them outside of it and enjoy them in your room.

The Z Hotel Gloucester Place

The Z Hotel Gloucester Place is one of the seven hotels of the homonymous chain in London (more are coming). The hotel is located on a quiet street next to the buzzing Oxford Street, while it is only 600m away from the Marble Arch metro station. In the surrounding area you will find a plethora of restaurants, bakeries, pubs, as well as stores for your shopping. The Z Hotel Gloucester Place is on an ideal location for you to explore London easily and swiftly. Within a short distance, you can find Hyde Park, Regent’s Park, Madame Tissauds, the British Museum and other points of interest.

The Z Hotel Gloucester Place has the largest rooms compared to the other hotels of the chain (18m² compared to just 9m²)! Its areas are clean and fragrant, while the staff is fully attentive and always willing to provide an answer to anything you might need. The reception desk is always open and in all common areas there is free wifi access. Furthermore, at the Z café or the patio you can relax, work and have your coffee.

The Z Hotel Gloucester Place

The rooms of The Z Hotel Gloucester Place are very comfortable –considering this is London-, with the wooden floors creating a friendly and warm atmosphere. The beds are large and comfy, while the spaces’ furnishing is modern and simple. Among the room’s amenities the ones that stand out are the coffee/tea maker, water boiler, flat TV with famous satellite channels, air-conditioning, clothes iron, free wifi, blow-dryer and the free beauty products. Finally, it is worth noting that it is very clean, as there is cleaning service daily.

The price per night is 160€, which is totally reasonable for the location, quality and the city! For 12€ extra, you can enjoy a nice breakfast. Highly Recommended (H)

Travelodge London Central Southwark Hotel

Its major pros are its prices and location, as it is affordable and located in the city center, with a metro station just 200m away. Other equally honorable traits are its cleanliness and the fact that there are lots of shops nearby. The rooms are spacious, clean and bright, with comfortable beds and decent bathrooms. Also, lots of them (ours included) offer an amazing view of the trains passing by the railways! The staff is all very polite, helpful and willing to answer to all of your questions.

Among the hotel’s few downsides is the use of the same sheets/towels for many days, the lack of parking spaces, as well as the rooms’ poor sound-proofing. It is also worth mentioning that the surrounding area is not well-lit so it gets pretty dark at night, but that doesn’t mean that it is not safe as well.

A four-night stay in April cost us a little under £290, which roughly translates to £70/night. Breakfast was not included in the price (£8-10 extra per person), but we would always find about a jillion options for a rich English breakfast inside the various shops and bakeries in the area!

If you are a low-maintenance customer and can be content with a quality room in the city center, then this hotel would be a really good choice. Recommended (R)

A few words about Travelodge:

Our first experience with Travelodge Hotels was decidedly satisfying. It is a large hotel chain, offering affordable and qualitative accommodations in both England and Spain. That’s why Travelodge is a smart and advantageous choice, for a city in which the matter of accommodation is usually most people’s headache.
