Cinque Wine & Deli Bar

The Cinque Wine & Deli Bar is an excellent choice to spend one or some of your nights in Athens. The wine bar is located on a cobbled street in the area of Psyrri, in an oblong, limited space. But its options are not limited at all, as it offers a wide variety of Greek wines, while it also offers free tasting of any brand you like. Accompany your wine with a rich cheese/meats platter, with products of exclusively Greek producers. Finally, the warm service completes the pleasant scenery. The bar is usually full, so you will have to make reservations. Highly Recommended (H)

Our suggestion: their tasty platters!

Mesohori: Kato Pedina

Vaggelio’s traditional coffeeshop is located in Kato Soudena, as the locals love to call Kato Pedina. Its interior space is plain, with traditional tables, while the fireplace smolders during most of the year’s months. The hostess, apart from a warm welcome, also offers coffee, tsipouro and various local delicacies, from pies to bean soup (depending on the goods that she has available). Prices are extremely low, but choices are also limited. Finally, you should keep in mind that in the village time has stopped, while stress is an unknown concept. That’s why, not only will you head out full, but also renewed. Highly Recommended (H)

Bouzoukia & Clubs

Welcome to the city that never sleeps! Welcome to the night life of Thessaloniki… The city, aside from delightful hangouts for a few drinks, also offers a vivid night life that starts at midnight and ends at the first morning hours! Bouzoukia is the original, greek entertainment and you will find more than 10 options in the city, to enjoy yourselves with the sounds of the bouzouki. Clubs, on the other hand, are the youth’s first choice, with mixes of commercial songs keeping the party going. In both choices, the alcohol, relaxed attitude and the night’s misdirection will lead you to unforeseen paths…Do you dare to discover them? Recommended (R)

Pergamondo (Nafplio)

You may be wondering…Are doughnuts (loukoumades in greek) considered entertainment? And we answer that the Pergamondo’s epic doughnuts in Nafplio are something more than entertainment…especially if you accompany them with some wonderful mastic ice-cream, honey and sesame. For an extra taste experience, add some cream cheese and get lost in the sweet sin, similar to which you will not find.

Our suggestion: Whichever Loukoumas comes your way!

Volkan on the Rocks (by Ergon)

Right where the absolute view meets relaxation and enjoyment, is where Volkan on the Rocks begins. The well-known Ergon chain distributes on the island the local Volkan beer, which is served cold, along with many delicious side dishes. Its ally is of course the endless view of the caldera. Service is at high levels and the beer is great, establishing the bar as one of the best options on the island. At Volkan on the Rocks you will also find cocktails, drinks and plenty of dishes, which are made with the well-known Ergon quality.

We suggest you to try: their own beer brand, Volkan!

Do not ignore Aris’ cocktails, because you will probably not find anything like them on your trip. Recommended (R)

Bimtsa: Papigo

If you are craving for some traditional coffee on ember, then you should totally pass by Papigo. At a central spot, just above the church of Agios Vlassis, mrs. Aspasia will welcome you to the traditional Bimtsa sweetshop. The store is small but it exudes a homely atmosphere, making every visitor feel comfortable right from the start. Aside from coffee, you will also find spoon sweets, home-made jams, liqueurs, as well as tin-baked sweets. If the weather is cold, grab a seat by the fireplace; if it is hot, the shop’s small outdoor space is to be preferred. No matter where you choose to sit, one thing is certain…even the most demanding sweet tooth will be satisfied! Recommended (Ρ)

Note: During the summer months, the shop’s operating hours are limited (so there is a chance you won’t find it open)..

Stoa bar Santorini restaurant (Fira)

In a pretty well “hidden” alley in the center of Thera, you will find Stoa bar Santorini. The space is divided in two parts, the café (lounge atmosphere, light food) and the bar. It can also be characterized as a hangout spot for locals and “well-read” tourists who want to enjoy just some coffee or even small dishes and a hookah and have fun until late at night. The staff is polite, while their cocktails are so good that you can easily lose control and try as many as you can.

The most must-eat sweet shop in Athens is Nancy’s Sweet Home and it is located in the square of Psyrri. Nancy’s mouth-watering desserts are rich in flavor, while portions are so large that it will be hard to eat one whole dessert by yourself! Service is great and prices very reasonable, considering the quality and quantity of the products. Nancy’s Sweet Home, although it has many tables (indoors and outdoors), is always full. If there is no table available, be a little patient and you will be compensated. With so many sweets, no-one can leave bitter. Highly Recommended (H)

Cafe-Tsipouro “Orivatis”: Monodendri

Prices are very good and the appetizers are sufficient, filling the void before lunch time. The environment resembles more a friendly home with a cozy attitude, rather than a coffee shop. In the shop you can also find groceries, various spoon sweets, as well as liqueurs from the local cuisine. If you are in the mood for charming local stories by the fire, then it’s worth devoting some time!

Couleur Locale

In the city center you will find lots of terraces to enjoy your coffee or drink. But we have for you the one that is mostly unknown to tourists and very must for locals! Couleur Locale is housed on the roof of a building at Normanou 3 street, next to the Monastiraki square and offers limited, yet wonderful view of the Acropolis. The outdoor space is quite large and charming, yet it is not easy to find a table, as locals visit it daily in order to enjoy their coffee or cocktail. Plaka

Plaka is probably the most beautiful area in Athens. Over there you will find lots of cafés, taverns and ouzo-shops to relax, all hours of the day. For us the ones that stood out were the famed Yiasemi and the corner café Melina. On the picturesque steps of Mnisikleous street, you have the chance to enjoy some jasmine tea accompanied by some home-made lemon-pie and good friends. A little bit down the road, café Melina, which owes its name to Melina Merkouri, awaits you for some coffee under the flowering bougainvilleas and the shadow of the Sacred Rock of Acropolis.

High School Pizza Bar

Along the magical seafront, you will find dozens of stores, but there is only one standing out. Although it has been in business for only a few years, High School Pizza Bar has become a favorite hangout place, making for the best choice to spend a few hours at Thermaikos Bay. It is located next to the port and what immediately grasps the attention is its extraordinary décor. Aside from drinks and cocktails, the shop also offers pizza and selected dishes, while on Sundays they serve our beloved brunch. Mediterranean Cosmos Mall

The next suggestion comes from the world of shopping and reminds something of the Mediterranean, as its name states. It is 11 km away from the city center and access to it can be achieved via car, taxi or bus. The mall has more than 160 stores for clothes and all kinds of products, 11 movie theaters and a specially designed dining area, where you can enjoy a meal, some dessert or a cup of coffee. Inside the mall, there are events held for all ages, in which you can participate! Both its interior and exterior spaces are extremely well-kept and clean, with the mall’s main concern being the customers’ comfort. The only disadvantage is the parking lot’s fee, which may be small, but it is unnecessary for such a place.

Suggested visit time: 2-3 hours
Open: Every day 09:00-02:00 (supermarkets & commercial shops. Closed on Sundays)
Cost: Free (unless you have a car; otherwise, you have to pay 1.5€)

The know it all says: It attracts almost 8.000.000(!) visitors yearly!
