Food in Bruges is a hard but pleasant business. The Flemish cuisine, although a bit heavy for the stomach, is quite tasty, with thick sauces accompanying lots of its dishes. Most restaurants offer quality food, prioritizing hot dishes, soups, fish fillets and meat “doused” in various sauces. Service is mostly professional, lacking intensity in the factors of friendliness and personal approach of the client, while the average price per person is 25-35€. You should also know that on weekends booking is mandatory. For the fans of fast and cheap food the choices are scarce, as you will not find anything apart from the 2 fast food trucks of the square and a few scattered burger/doner shops.

No special introduction is required for Ribs ‘n’ Beer, as its fame precedes its name. The most famous BBQ restaurant in the city offers the most delicious ribs in the world! And if this is not enough for you to pick it, then think about how you can fill your plate as many times you like, without additional cost. And now that we mentioned cost, you should know that by filling your stomach you will not empty your wallet, as prices are at reasonable levels. The restaurant operates ONLY with reservations. In a distance of 1km from the city center there is this hidden, low budget restaurant*. A small shop for those who want warm, home-made food in a pleasant environment. Portions are normal, fairly tasty and service is good, as the owner is willing to show the menu with patience and a smile. Choose the dishes of the day that are accompanied by soup, rice, potatoes or a mini salad. The only downsides are that it only has a few tables and it is open only a few days and hours of the week**. It is probably the most affordable choice for quality food in the city. Recommended (R)

Resto Mojo is located opposite of the Koningin Astridpark and it is really easy to overlook, as it is subtle without bright lights and signs. But its interior wooes the visitor with its warm environment, as well as the fine dishes. Another one of its assets is the great service, which comes, however, in contrast with raised prices. Do not miss the chance to try one of the exquisite desserts or have your cocktail/drink in its charming outdoor space. You should make a reservation, if you want to be sure that you will get a table. If you happen to be around the city center and want to eat something fast and cheap, then the 2 food trucks in front of Belfort will cover your hunger on the spot. The food is not of high quality or taste, but it is an inexpensive choice, for those that want something fast. Service is average and their menu includes hot dogs, cold sandwiches, burgers, waffles, sodas and generally “junk” food. The most positive fact is that they stay open until late at night, which means up until 22:30-23:00 (it is pretty late for Bruges)! Opt for the truck on your right as you look at them. Meh (M)

Belgium equals waffles! It would be a real shame to be in Bruges and not get a taste of its famous waffles. We tried them in little shops, canteens, cold, hot, with toppings and plain. And after all this waffle-tasting, we ended up at the shop with the best ones. It is located in the city center, in a distance of only 100m from Markt square. It is distinctive for its low-key attitude, the polite staff, and the real hot chocolate and of course for its big, delicious waffles. The high quality and fresh side dishes will make you fall in love with it from the first bite. The only think that you won’t find sweet is…its very high prices! Note: One waffle is enough for two people. Recommended (R)

A good day starts in the morning. Especially when it starts with a bang. In this shop, they know this well and that’s why they offer a rich and tasteful breakfast! What steals the show is the immense variety of both salty and sweet delicacies. You can find puffs, waffles with chocolate, fruit salads with cereal, as well as pizza and sandwiches. In its advantages you can add the service, quality and prices, along with the fact that it opens very early in the morning. Recommended (R)

Every morning, 9 to 10 Monday to Saturday, for this low cost you have the chance for a full breakfast on the first floor of the Hema Mall*. The products’ quality is satisfying and the value for money ratio is excellent. Notice: The offer is only for early birds, as after 10am breakfast costs around 7-8€. Good Choice (G)

This is a totally tourist shop, which is located next to the ever-busy Minnewaterpark. They serve mediocre in taste and price breakfast, which you can either take to go, or have it in the large and impersonal interior space. But the biggest flaw is the owner’s deplorable behavior and the way that he treats customers. Despite its variety and location, there are better places where you can have your breakfast. Pass (P)
