Hotel

Although there may be a myriad of hotels in Rome, it will be hard to find the right one. A double room in a hotel, located within an average distance from the city center, ranges between 80 and 120€ per night. But if you are willing to put your hand deeper into your pocket, accommodation will not be an issue, as there are many and descent accommodation sites (average price 200€).

Tip: During Off Season prices are up to 40% lower.

For the rest, accommodation will be a tricky matter to handle, as the combination of quality, good price and distance from the city center is anything but easy. You will have to search quite a lot, in order to find the place that meets your financial, as well as personal qualifications. Rome is one of the cities with the most hotels in the world, as it has more than 15,000 (!) options to choose from.

Hotel dei Barbieri

The Hotel dei Barbieri opened its gates at the start of 2017 and it is an excellent choice for accommodation in Rome. It is probably the most VFM hotel in the city, as its location and quality are representative of its prices. It is housed in an historic, 17th century building, which was fully renovated, but preserved some of the must details of the era, like murals and marble columns. The hotel is in the heart of Rome, just 1 minute away from the Largo di Torre Argentina, 3’ away from the Campo de’ Fiori market, 5’ from the Pantheon, 12’ from the Fontana di Trevi and 15’ from the Colosseum and the Sant’Angelo Castle.

The unique architecture, earthly colors and extremely polished spaces are some of the features worth noting. Also, the staff is very attentive and polite, willing to provide any information and make your stay pleasant in any way. Furthermore, the front desk stays open 24/7. But, the advantages do not end here, as the hotel provides a free cell-phone with free internet and calls to selected countries apart from Italy. (With 5€ per day the device becomes a hotspot-router for you to have access to the internet from the rest of your devices as well, like laptops, tablets etc.)

Hotel dei Barbieri

The rooms have a minimal line, they are clean and high-ceilinged, while the view from the windows is limited. They have double beds, which are soft and perfect for resting, so much so that it will be hard to let go. The rooms have a strong wifi signal (free), working desk, TV, a safe box, autonomous heating-cooling system and an iron for the clothes. The bathroom follows the same aesthetic as the rest of the building and it is quite spacious, while it is equipped with high quality beauty products, clean towels, a rain shower, slippers, a hair-dryer and more benefits.

The only disadvantages of the room are the low water pressure some times during the day, as well as the noise, which is a result of the old-style windows. Finally, a fact that leaves quite the negative impression is that it does not have dining areas, which is odd considering its 4 stars!

The money we paid for one night was 120€ without breakfast, which is not one of the hotel’s strongest points (cost around 15€ per person). The Hotel dei Barbieri will certainly be our first choice, provided they don’t change its excellent VFM quality. Recommended (R)

Tip: The rooms of the ground floor are a little dark and claustrophobic, so ask to stay in one of the rest.

Demetra Hotel

The Demetra Hotel is located on an excellent spot in the city and provides the opportunity to get to know it easily and comfortably, without needless transports! Rome is a city where everything happens inside its center, so it is a little unfair to not be there! The Demetra Hotel is opposite of the Rome opera, just 3 minutes away from the Termini station. In the surrounding area you will find dozens of restaurants, cafés, gelaterie and many stores for your shopping, while the metro station is just 400m away. Also, it is worth highlighting that some of the most important attractions, such as the Piazza della Repubblica, the Colosseum, the Fontana di Trevi and the Roman Forum are within a short distance from the hotel.

The 4-star Demetra Hotel is housed in an historic building, which has been renovated and offers modern, appealing and comfortable stay. It has 27 rooms, of various types. Its interior spaces are modern and clean, with the white color, on walls and furniture, stealing the show. Every morning, in the exquisite, modern area of the ground floor, they serve European breakfast, while it also has comfortable lounge areas with contemporary furnishing. Service is good, while the reception desk is open 24/7.

The rooms of the Demetra Hotel are spacious, high-ceilinged and totally functional. They have a sophisticated atmosphere, warm attitude, thanks to their colors, and comfortable beds, ideal for resting. The rooms’ cleanliness is at a very good level, while among the amenities the ones that stand out are the fast-free WiFi connection, mini bar, satellite TV, work desk, free beauty products and, of course, the spacious and clean bathroom. The soundproofing of the rooms is also great, while the autonomous cooling/heating allows you to adjust the temperature according to your taste.

The average price per night is 100-110€, including a fantastic breakfast. The price is amazing considering the amenities, the quality and, of course, the location of the hotel. Bear in mind that you are in the heart of Rome. Recommended (R)

Tip:

If you visit it Off Season, the price will be up to 40% lower!

Roma Resort Colosseum

The Roma Resort Colosseum is a good and affordable choice for accommodation in Rome. The apartment hotel is housed in a well-preserved, corner building in front of the Manzoni metro station. It is just 15 minutes away from the Colosseum, on the crossing of two big streets, and offers easy and quick access to the city center. In the surrounding area you will find free parking spaces, as well as many dining and entertainment facilities.

The apartments are spacious, high-ceilinged, quite bright and –relatively- new. Each has a big double bed, a kitchen, sofa, fridge, TV, hair-dryer and closet. It is also worth noting that they have great sound-proofing, while the wifi signal is excellent. In its advantages we should add the politeness and attentiveness of the staff, who are willing to provide you with any piece of information and help with whatever you need. Finally, you should know that the hotel, in collaboration with a private taxi company, ensures the transportation from and to the city airports.

On the other hand, the mould in the bathroom and dirt on the floor in combination with the lack of breakfast and no change of sheets, are the hotel’s most important downsides.

For 5 nights we paid 420€ + 25€ overnight accommodation tax in the Italian state. The price is very good for the location, quality and the hotel’s overall image. On a future visit, it will be high on our list. Good Choice (G)
