The Szimpla Kert bar is close to the Zara Hotel and is a hangout place for dozens of people on a nightly basis. It is a very old and neglected building with a bizarre, intriguing and eccentric decor that will draw you like a magnet! You can sit in one of its two floors or in its courtyard. It is self-service and prices are extremely low. Wander around and explore this “shady”* place while you have a drink and feel all dangerous and stuff…You may be torn between wondering HOW you ended up there and feeling excited about the overall atmosphere! After all, wide diversities are the largest part of its charm! Highly Recommended (H)

*We call it that, because in order to get inside we passed through a curtain of plastic strips that looked like the entrance to a slaughterhouse!

Budapest doesn’t provide a lot of options for a night out, but the 360° View Terrace Bar makes up for that! They offer a vast variety of drinks, wines, cocktails, soft drinks and mix plates in very good prices. It is very spacious, so it can host many people, with various sitting options including tables, stands and the bar. The best days to visit it are Friday and Saturday when it is jammed with young people and it stays open until 03.00! Recommended (R)

This café is perfect for a short rest while you enjoy a cup of coffee or some hot chocolate. With a style that resembles Starbucks, they offer a great variety of coffees and chocolates, as well as various snacks like muffins, cakes, cookies and cold sandwiches, all fairly priced. You can find it across the street from the famous Basilica and its tastefully decorated interior makes for a warm and cozy ambiance. Still, if you choose to sit outside, you will enjoy a pleasant view of the buzzing square. The shop is self-service and you get your order pretty quickly. Recommended (R)

A warm and welcoming café with polite and friendly staff. Although there are two Anna cafés in the city, their product quality is mediocre. We sat in the one near the Liberty Bridge, which leads to the Citadella. Since you know better, you can choose one of the many other shops nearby that may serve tastier beverages. Pass (P)
