Beloi tavern: Vitsa

The Beloi tavern is not very popular with travelers, but it is a good solution for a meal, if you are in the area of Vitsa. The owner has an animal unit, so it makes perfect sense that meat is the star of the menu! Prices are reasonable and the flavors and presentation of the dishes are sufficient, as is the service. Furthermore, the variety of options, as well as the dishes’ portions, is good enough. It is not recommended for vegetarians or those looking for unique flavors. It is a great place to eat some meat without great cost and…requirements. Good Choice (G)

Food Tour Santorini

The next option is not another tavern or some gourmet restaurant. It is a complete Food Tour with local flavors as well as many images of Santorini! The dive into the Santorinian cuisine is realized with the help of the amazing food leader Telis and it includes coffee, bougatsa, beer, beer side dishes, melitinia, cherry tomatoes, Santorinian fava, pastrami, olive oil, souvlaki or gyros, local wines, octopus, tsipouro, domatokeftedes, moussaka and loukoumades…for cooling off! Royal Sun Restaurant

If you would like to dine with the entire city of Chania at your feet, then we have the ideal place for you. The restaurant of the Royal Sun hotel gives everyone the chance to enjoy a meal with a pretty view of the city and the Cretan Sea. The choices may be limited and the flavors might not have the Cretan cuisine as a basic trait, but the view and the huge portions will satisfy you completely. The dishes’ quality is also satisfactory, as well as the prices and service. Finally, you should know that almost all the tables on the balcony come with a view, while to reach it you will need a means of transport. Recommended (R)

En Leonidio (Leonidio)

The tavern En Leonidio is located in the town center and serves tasty and quality dishes, limited in variety. Their menu is based on local products and mainly on the tsakonian eggplant, which they use even in pizzas! As a matter of fact, they have set up their menu around the tsakonian eggplant, which they have managed to optimize in terms of taste. Prices are slightly high, service is very good and the environment is beautiful and tasteful.

Our suggestion: Eggplants with sauce cooked in a clay pot!

Brothers in law

“Brothers in law” has the best burger in the city and one of the most delicious that we have ever tried! It is located in the city center and housed in an impressive and well-kept space. The 25 burger options cover all tastes with their simple, as well as the most intricate flavors. The restaurant puts a lot of focus on the customer, doing whatever they can so the customers leave satisfied, both in terms of food and service provided. Even though prices are quite steep, it is worth tasting the city’s most luscious burger, accompanied by some freshly-cut French fries. Recommended (R)

A little Taste of Home

The time has come to get A little Taste of Home. The restaurant is located in Gazi, very close to the metro station, and it is a favorite hangout for Athenians. In a delightfully decorated and bright space, A little Taste of Home serves nice dishes from all over the world. Tastes might not be what you are used to, but they blend together perfectly. Portions are satisfying, service is polite, while the smells from the kitchen introduces you at once with the game of flavors from all over the world. Ioannidis Restaurant: Papigo

It is a café/ restaurant/ cafeteria/ take away/ tavern (a bit confusing as to its identity), with a large outdoor and indoor space. It is located in the village’s center, opposite the church of Ag. Vlassis. Its indoor space is pleasant, clean, combining the old with the modern and offers coffee, tsipouro and food at steep prices. The variety, quality and flavors are good, while service and staff courtesy are not included in the restaurant’s selling points! If you happen to be close by and are in the mood for some coffee or tsipouro, you can make a quick stop. Meh (M)

Drosostalia

During our excursion to Apokoronas, we discovered the tavern Drosostalia, in Armenoi village. The delicious dishes, huge portions and friendly service are a few of the tavern’s positive traits, while variety is not included in the restaurant’s assets. With prices being quite low and portions very filling, the 30-minute distance from Chania is not a problem for you to enjoy a meal, under the shade of the plane trees. Tip: Do not order a lot of dishes, because you will probably not be able to eat even half of them…The horiatiki salad can be eaten by four people as a main dish! Recommended (R)

Devido

You are in Thessaloniki and you are not going to have some gyros? Gyros (along with souvlaki) is the most popular fast food in the city and you just have to try it. It may be considered as one of the unhealthiest of junk food, but we recommend you the best restaurant in terms of quality, where you can enjoy it! The taste, variety and good prices remain the chain stores’ strongest weapons, while a Devido pita combined with anything is capable of filling even the most demanding of stomachs. Finally, service in all three stores is very good and the spaces are clean and well-kept. Highly Recommended (H)

It is located in the small village of Zatouna and it is a discovery for anyone looking for shops unknown to most people, with quality, quiet and a pleasant environment. Mani Mani

The Mani Mani restaurant is located in the city center, close to the Acropolis Museum and the metro station. It is housed on the first floor of a neoclassic building, in a space different than any other restaurants, which reminds more of the inside of a home. The variety of dishes is pretty limited and prices are somewhat high compared to the city’s average and also considering their quality. And as far as service is concerned, it is also at average levels. Nonetheless, portions are satisfying in quantity and cover the needs of the visitor, for a filling lunch or dinner. Good Choice (G)

Zagorian Breakfast

In Zagorochoria you are not going to find breakfast in bakeries and other stores. But this does not mean that you will have to go without it in your diet, quite the opposite actually. Almost every hotel in the area includes breakfast (EN) in their main benefits, while using pure, local flavors. In most of them the quality is superb, with show-stealing fresh eggs, home-made jams, kneaded bread, fresh butter and various local pies with all kinds of fillings (from greens and mushrooms to chicken and minced meat!). With all these and many other delicacies, each day begins in Zagorochoria.

Note: Even if breakfast is part of the hotel’s extra benefits, do not hesitate to add it (no matter the cost). You will not regret it..

Elvis

Is Elvis alive? Conspiracy theories about the King of rock n’ roll might be many, but there is another King Elvis living in Athens! The famous kalamaki-shop “Elvis” counts many years in the field and has shops in two locations (Kerameikos & Pangrati). It is famed for the juicy and delicious kalamaki and affordable prices. At Elvis, you will not find a great variety of meats, only kalamaki, kebab and chops, all grilled on coal. Ta Nisia tis Panayias (Elafonissos)

Food in Elafonissos is a small problem, as options are limited and mediocre in quality. But if you want to have a pleasant culinary experience, visit Alexandra’s restaurant, Ta Nisia tis Panayias. There, while having a wonderful view of the islands of Panayia, you will taste foods satisfying in taste and quantity, with prices being quite high.

Our suggestion: The juicy rib steak!
