The Monastery of Karolos

The Monastery of Karolos is located in an alley of the old town, and daily gathers crowds of young people that go there to enjoy their drinks, in a relaxed attitude. It is very similar to the “Sinagogi”, as both of them are built in the courtyards of old buildings, which have been renovated. The bar offers a vast variety of cocktails, many of which are their own recipes, while service and prices are at satisfying levels. In order to get a table, you should visit it around 22:00. Good Choice (G)

Orange blue

Orange blue is the best place to see the famous sunset of Falassarna. The reggae atmosphere with the respective music and the nice cocktails will be an extra reason for you to get in a relaxed mood and enjoy the magic of the unparalleled sunset. The service follows the relaxation of the whole concept and prices are average. At Orange Blue you will also find a limited menu of dishes and snacks to cover your hunger. Note: The entrance of the store is inside the parking lot of a hotel complex.. Recommended (R)

Gefyra

In the village of Vrisses in Apokoronas, you will find “Gefyra”, a shop that offers traditional Cretan yoghurt next to pretty waters. In a space that coolness has the first word, you have the chance to catch a few breaths and try the traditional dessert of the region, which has been served there for many years. Its taste is quite sour, so if it is not in your tastes, you can order whatever else you like. Tip: Ask them to add some extra honey, because they do not put nearly enough. Good Choice (G)

Simantirakis Pastry Shop

In the main village of Kissamos, stop at the Simantirakis pastry shop. The pastry shop is famous for its Éclairs and you should not miss the chance to try the fresh dessert, if you are in the area. Its price is very good, as well as its size. But what stands out is its taste! Make a sweet stop and we are waiting for your impressions… Recommended (R)

Koukouvagia

The popular shop Koukouvagia could not be missing from the places we visited. The café-bar is located next to the Venizelos’ graves and it has been for years a trademark for the city. It became known for two things. The first is the fantastic, panoramic view of the city of Chania and the second one is the fluffy chocolate-dessert by the name of “Zoumero”. It is worth mentioning that, nowadays, “Zoumero” is not its strongest asset (it used to be amazing, as many locals confirmed). Its interior spaces are very well-kept and full of owls (koukouvagia=owl), of all kinds. Meh (Μ)

Our suggestion: the dessert “Zoumero”.
Our order: 1 Zoumero & 1 Lemonade. Total cost: 7.2€.

It is also worth mentioning that our review/opinion pertains ONLY to shops that we have visited.

Sinagogi

Sinagogi is one of the most popular bars in the city and maybe our favorite. It is housed in the courtyard of an old building and it is quite polished and classy, while at the same time having an essence of relaxation. It is worth visiting with your company in order to try the nice cocktails and its youthful atmosphere. But, to ensure a good seat, it is a necessary requirement that you be there around 22:00. Highly Recommended (H)

Ginger Concept

Our favorite shop, Ginger Concept, has a spot in this category as well. The reason is that it offers plenty of choices for drinks, cocktails and wine. If you prefer a low-key night out or would like a first drink in the company of good taste and quality, then you are in the right place! It may be located in the old town, but the alley that it is on, is not known to the tourists. Also, both prices and the staff are at a great level for what they offer. Choose the fantastic Mexican Mule cocktail.. Highly Recommended (H)

Pallas is a standard and qualitative choice for your night out. It is located on the harbor and offers a wonderful view of the lighthouse, vivid life and great products. You can enjoy your drink in the exterior space or its beautiful interior (ground & 1st floors). Pallas also offers breakfast, a few snacks, as well as selected dishes, all in reasonable prices. On Fridays and weekends you should be there early or have made reservations to get seated. Highly Recommended (H)

Kafeneio tis Ketis (Ketis’ Cafe)

Are you in the mood for getting far away from the tourist clichés of Chania and want to enjoy some coffee (not espresso or French) in a traditional kafeneio (coffee house)? If your answer is yes, then you should visit Ketis’ café that is located in Kalami, just 10 minutes outside of Chania, with an amazing view of the sea! Over there, everything runs slowly and stress is an unknown word. Devote 1-2 hours to get filled with images and peacefulness, before going on with your demanding excursions. Recommended (R)
