General

• The national currency of Russia is the Ruble. The exchange rate with the Euro is about 1/70.
• Exchange some money from your country of origin so that you have some (at least) for the first expenses. extra tip: Exchange agencies at the airport are disadvantageous!
• The most advantageous way to pay is cash (Rubles that you have exchanged at a good rate).
• All shops have POS machines for card payments. However, you should know that bank exchange rates are not advantageous.
• Many metro stations only have regular stairs (not escalators), which will give you a hard time if you carry suitcases.
• The seasons with the highest visitor rates are Summer and the Christmas holidays.
• Too much tourist traffic can wear you out at some popular attractions. Visit them during the opening so that you avoid the hassle.
• In Russia use of drones is not allowed, without special permit.
• The greatest disadvantage of the winter is not the cold but the few hours of daylight, which results in a) you running around trying to do it all or b) having to stay more days.
• The ideal number of days to stay in Moscow is five in the summer and seven in the winter.
• Moscow is the best Christmas holidays destination.
• In every building there is entrance check with a metal detector. There are also checks in “fancy” hotels and shopping centers.
• In every museum, shop and restaurant there is free coat check. Leave your jacket there as indoor spaces are too warm (in the winter).
• Distances are pretty long. Prefer the means of public transport.
• In the winter you must absolutely carry a moisturizer. The constant changes from very cold (outside) to very hot (in museums, restaurants etc.) will cause bloody breakouts on hands and lips.
• The majority of Russians are not fluent in English. It would be good to learn a few basic Russian words or have a dictionary with you.
• All of Moscow (and especially its center) is pretty safe, as there is police everywhere.

Transportation

General

• You can move around by metro, bus, minibuses (Marshrutkas), tram, trolley and train.
• Tickets are valid for all means of public transport.
• Moscow has four rings. The Moscow Ring Road (the biggest one), the Third Ring Road, the Garden Ring Road and the Boulevard Ring (the smallest one).
• The M14 and 5 (brown) metro line, as well as the “b” bus line are circular. 
• At the entrance of many metro stations there are luggage and metal objects checks.
• The metro comes about every 30’’ to 1’ on weekdays and every two minutes during nights and weekends!
• Metro operating hours 05:30-01:00.
• The metro wagon might be coming fast, but its distance from the entrance of the train and vice versa is long, so you need at least five minutes!
• The connecting stations are very far away from each other (up to 10’ walking)!
• In buses you can pay with card (contactless) at the machines with the special sign, while you can also issue a ticket from the driver.
• The Troika card is like London’s Oyster.. It works as a wallet and provides discounted ticket price (40%) .
• For the purchase of the Troika card, you will have to put in an amount as warranty, which is returned with the card.
• 👌 THE BEST OPTION: Purchase the daily or three-day pass for unlimited transportations with all means of public transport (it is valid for 24 or 72 hours and not per calendar day).

• All metro stations operate with ticket scanning at the entrance. Also, at every entrance there is a policeman, guard or metro employee!
• In many metro wagons, buses and stops there are USB ports to charge your phone.
• Caution: At metro escalators, if you are not in a hurry, sit on the right side and leave the left side free. Hotheads push like there is not tomorrow!

Taxi:

• Don’t pick the taxi during rush hours…you will get there faster on foot!
• Most drivers do not speak English.
• To call a taxi, better prefer the safety of the UBER, Yandex Tazi and Gett applications.

Moscow Airport-Moscow center

Via Aeroexpress:

• It is the best way to reach the city from the Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo & Vnukovo airports.
• Ticket cost: single trip 500RUB, round-trip 900RUB.
• You can book tickets for 1, 2 or 4 persons.
• You will find electronic ticket booths everywhere in the airports. They accept cards and give change.
• Trips every 30 minutes from 04:00 to 00:30 (depending on the airport).
• Trip duration 30-50 minutes, depending on the airport.
• Download the app for easy management of tickets and schedules.
• Through the app you can book a combo ticket for Aeroexpress and taxi.
• If you book your ticket four to 90 days before your arrival, you get a 10% discount.
• The AeroexpressBus also starts from the Sheremetyevo airport, ending up at the Khovrino metro station. It lasts about 20 minutes and costs 150RUB.

By bus:

• From Sheremetyevo airport: Fixed-route taxi 949 and 948, Buses: 851, 817, H1 (night bus).
• From Domodedovo airport: Express and shuttlebus Ν° 308
• From Vnukovo airport: 611, 611c, 611f and H11 (night bus)

By taxi: 

• Trip costs around 20€-30€

Alternative ways to meet Moscow:

• a) The “b” bus that circles around Moscow (Garden Ring).
  
• b) The M27 & M2 and 119 buses that offer wonderful images.
  
• c) The A, 3 and 39 tram lines that cross a part of Moscow’s smallest ring (Boulevard Ring) and pass by many attractions.

Attractions

General

• Many museums remain closed on Mondays or Tuesdays.
• At many museums and attractions in Moscow, information is written only in Russian.
• In all museums and attractions there are checks of your belongings.
• All museums have free coat check.
• Next to the Alexander Garden there is the three-storey, underground Okhotny Ryad Mall! Discover it..
• Every year, in mid-May, the Night of the Museums takes place, with free entrance to 300 museums! Check out the schedule HERE! 
• Lenin’s Mausoleum has free entrance. It is open 10:00-13:00 and it is closed every Monday and Friday. In the summer months, get in line early on, as later in the day the wait can be up to two hours!
• The change of guard at Alexander Garden happens every hour.
• The Moscow City Pass offers free entrance and skip line in many attractions.

Saint Basil

• St. Basil’s Cathedral remains closed on the first Wednesday of every month (from November 8th to April 30th).
• The ticket office closes one hour before the church’s closing time.
• Last entrance 30 minutes before closing.
• In temperatures below -15 °C, the cathedral reduces its operating hours.
• Entrance is free for children under 16 years old.
• In order to get the best pictures, without the crowds, you must be there before the sunrise!
• The visit in the Cathedral’s interior might not impress you (like visiting the Cathedral of Christ the Savior.

Bolshoi Theater

• Book tickets to watch an opera or ballet ONLY through the theater’s official website. Caution: there are many websites that sell tickets at prices up to three times higher.
• Prefer a show that is performed on the Theater’s Historic Stage. The glamour and quality of this stage is high-end (as well as the cost).
• Children under the age of 10 are not allowed to watch afternoon shows.
• In order to find tickets for important shows, you must have made reservations at least 3-4 months in advance! 
• Tickets for some shows start at 200€!

Tours in English:

Take place every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (online booking) and Friday at 11:30, while in Russian it’s the same days at 11:00.

Procedure:

Σημαντικές Σημειώσεις: α) Μπορείτε να αγοράσετε μόνο 2 εισιτήρια ανά λογαριασμό. β) Οι διαθέσιμες θέσεις είναι μόνο 20 και ανοίγουν 7 μέρες πριν. Επομένως για να βρείτε εισιτήρια θα πρέπει να μπείτε στη σελίδα την προηγούμενη Πέμπτη το απόγευμα ή το αργότερο την Παρασκευή το πρωί!

Για το αγγλικό Τουρ των 11:30 της Τρίτης, Τετάρτης και Παρασκευής θα βρείτε εισιτήρια μόνο από το desk του Θεάτρου (στην πόρτα 12) και μόνο για την ΙΔΙΑ μέρα! Μέγιστος αριθμός ατόμων: 20. extra tip: Να είστε εκεί από νωρίς, για να είστε σίγουροι πως θα βρείτε εισιτήρια.

Moscow Kremlin

• Εισιτήρια για την είσοδο στο Κρεμλίνο Μόσχας θα βγάλετε από το Γραφείο Τουριστικών πληροφοριών (Kassy Moskovskogo Kremlya) που βρίσκεται μπροστά από το Κρεμλίνο (Δείτε εδώ που βρίσκεται).
• Για να αποφύγετε ουρές και καθυστερήσεις κλείστε το εισιτήριο ηλεκτρονικά από την επίσημη σελίδα.
• Η είσοδος γίνεται από τον πύργο Kutafiya (Predmostnaya) Tower, μέσω της γέφυρας Troitskiy Bridge.
• Κάθε Σάββατο στις 12:00 από Απρίλιο έως Οκτώβριο στην πλατεία του Καθεδρικού Ναού πραγματοποιείται η τελετή πομπής των ιππέων και πεζοπόρων του Προεδρικού αγήματος.
• Τα παιδιά μέχρι 16 ετών έχουν δωρεάν πρόσβαση σε όλο το Κρεμλίνο.
• Ο πύργος IVAN THE GREAT BELL είναι κλειστός τον Χειμώνα.
• Για την Αίθουσα των Όπλων θα πρέπει να κλείσετε εισιτήριο με τη μέρα και την ώρα της επιλογής σας (Κάντε κράτηση ΕΔΩ).

BUNKER-42

• Τουρ στα Αγγλικά:

• Το εισιτήριο το ΠΣΚ είναι αυξημένο κατά 150 RUB!

Cruise in Moscow 

• Οι σταθμοί εκκίνησης της κρουαζιέρας είναι δύο. Ο Pier Gorky Park και ο Pier Hotel UKRAINA με τον τελευταίο να είναι μακράν καλύτερος!
• Για να βρείτε θέση (ειδικά τη High Season) φροντίστε να έχετε κάνει κράτηση τουλάχιστον 1-2 μέρες νωρίτερα.
• Κλείστε εισιτήριο μόνο από την επίσημη ιστοσελίδα.
• H Moscow City Pass προσφέρει δωρεάν μόνο την κρουαζιέρα. Το φαγητό και το ποτό δεν περιλαμβάνονται.
• Στις οθόνες του πλοίου μπορείτε να δείτε πληροφορίες για τα αξιοθέατα που συναντάτε.
• Σημαντικό: Καθίστε στη δεξιά πλευρά. Θα έχετε την καλύτερη οπτική και στο πήγαινε και στο έλα!
• Μπείτε από τους πρώτους για να εξασφαλίσετε μία θέση στο παράθυρο.

Tour of the Moscow Metro

• Οι πιο εντυπωσιακές στάσεις είναι η 1) Arbatskaya, 2) Slavyansky Bulvar 3) Ploshchad Revolyutsii 4) Novoslobodskaya 5) Arbatskaya, 6) Mayakovskaya και οι μεγαλοπρεπείς 7) Kievskaya και 8) Komsomolskaya.
• Ο σταθμός Park Pobedy είναι o 3ος βαθύτερος στον κόσμο αφού βρίσκεται 84 μέτρα κάτω από τη γη!
• Μην κάνετε το τουρ τις ώρες αιχμής καθώς ο κόσμος είναι υπερβολικά πολύς.

Cathedral of Christ the Savior

• Κάτι που πολλοί δεν γνωρίζουν για τον ναό είναι ότι μπορείτε να ανεβείτε στους τρούλους και να απολαύσετε τη Μόσχα από ψηλά (κόστος 400RUB).
• Στο εσωτερικού του ναού απαγορεύονται οι φωτογραφίες.

Observation Deck του Ukraina Hotel

• Το εισιτήριο περιλαμβάνει ποτό ή καφέ από το εστιατόριο Buono.
• Τον χειμώνα είναι ανοιχτό μόνο το εστιατόριο Buono, αλλά προσφέρει και αυτό εξίσου όμορφη θέα.

Zaryadye Park

• Απαγορεύεται το κάπνισμα και η κατανάλωση αλκοόλ.
• Απαγορεύεται η είσοδος σε κατοικίδια.

SKA Moscow basketball game

• Τα εισιτήρια για τους αγώνες βγαίνουν έως και ένα μήνα πριν.
• Αγοράστε εισιτήριο ΜΟΝΟ από την επίσημη σελίδα της ομάδας.

Izmailovo Kremlin

• Στην υπαίθρια αγορά του θα βρείτε τα πιο φθηνά σουβενίρ στη Μόσχα (2-3 φορές κάτω από τα μαγαζιά του κέντρου).
• Επισκεφτείτε το Κρεμλίνο μία καθημερινή κατά το άνοιγμα για να πετύχετε λιγότερο κόσμο.

Traps

• Οι Μπάμπουσκες/Ματριόσκες είναι εξαιρετικά ακριβές! Θα βρείτε ακριβώς τις ίδιες στην υπαίθρια αγορά του Ιζμαίλοβο έως και 3 φορές πιο φθηνά!!
• Προσοχή: Κυκλοφορούν μη εξουσιοδοτημένα ταξί τα οποία υπερχρεώνουν τη διαδρομή χωρίς να το καταλάβετε!
• Ο πεζόδρομος Arbat μπορεί να είναι από τους πιο παλιούς και γνωστούς στη Μόσχα, δεν παύει όμως να αποτελεί μία τουριστική παγίδα με πανάκριβα σουβενίρ και φαγητό κακής ποιότητας.
• Σε καμία περίπτωση μην εμπιστευτείτε τα ξενοδοχεία για φαγητό. Προτείνουν τα πιο τουριστικά, με τα οποία έχουν συνεργασία.
• Μην αγοράζετε νερό από το αεροδρόμιο ή τους σιδηροδρομικούς σταθμούς! Έχουν εξωφρενικά υψηλές τιμές!
• Προσοχή: Στο μέτρο υπάρχουν ομάδες που δρουν αρπάζοντας το κινητό λίγο πριν κλείσουν οι πόρτες και εξαφανίζονται.
• Πολλά ξενοδοχεία δίνουν την επιλογή έκδοσης πρόσκλησης για Visa. Το κόστος όμως είναι έως και 3 φορές πάνω από το κανονικό! Κλείστε από ΕΔΩ
• Στο κέντρο θα δείτε να κυκλοφορούν σωσίες του Πούτιν, του Λένιν και άλλων σημαντικών προσώπων. Θα πρέπει να ξέρετε πως μία φωτό μαζί τους θα σας κοστίσει κάποια Ρούβλια!

Food

• Αγοράστε Ρώσικη Βότκα! Επώνυμες μάρκες θα τις βρείτε ακόμη και 3 φορές κάτω! Sos: μόνο 1L/άτομο μπορείτε να πάρετε μαζί σας για να μην πληρώσετε τελωνείο και 3L/άτομο συνολικά (για τα 2L θα πληρώσετε φόρο).
• Το ψωμί στα εστιατόρια έχει έξτρα κόστος και θα πρέπει να το παραγγείλετε ξεχωριστά.
• Το νερό έχει έξτρα χρέωση… ακόμη και από τη βρύση! 
• Σε πολλά μαγαζιά οι μερίδες είναι μικρές και το προσωπικό αγενές.
• Η περιοχή γύρω από το Patriarch’s Ponds αποτελεί μία Must επιλογή για φαγητό και ποτό.
• Επισκεφτείτε μια από τις τοπικές αγορές Danilovsky Market, Depo Moscow, Tsvetnoy Central Market και Usachevsky Market, για ρώσικες γεύσεις σε οικονομικές τιμές.
• Στο μάρκετ фасоль που βρίσκεται στην οδό Petrovka Ulitsa, 21-19 θα βρείτε επώνυμη Βότκα σε τιμή εξαιρετικά χαμηλή (έως και 3 φορές κάτω).
• Τα περισσότερα μαγαζιά διαθέτουν ηλεκτρονική κράτηση (θα πρέπει να δηλώσετε ρώσικο αριθμό).
• Με ένα φιλοδώρημα της τάξης των 400RUB + (στην αρχή του γεύματος) θα έχετε σε κάθε μαγαζί της Μόσχας πολύ ευνοϊκότερη μεταχείριση από τους σερβιτόρους.
